SommelAI is an AI-powered wine discovery app. Scan a restaurant’s wine list, tell the app what you’re eating or in the mood for, and get personalized wine pairing suggestions in seconds. You can also build a wine cellar inventory by scanning bottle labels, track your tasting history with reviews, and develop a personalized taste profile that improves your recommendations over time.
When you first open the App, you’ll use it as an anonymous user after confirming you’re at least 21 years old. Anonymous users can perform up to 3 AI-powered actions (scans and pairings combined).
To unlock full access (10 AI actions per day), create an account by tapping the prompt when you reach your limit, or go to the Profile tab. You can sign up with your email address or use Apple Sign-In. During sign-up, you’ll provide your display name, date of birth, and gender, then complete a quick taste quiz to personalize your recommendations.
Open the App and tap the scan button on the home screen. Point your camera at the wine list and tap the capture button when the image looks clear. You can scan up to 8 pages per wine list. The App will extract the wines from your photos using AI.
Wine lists vary in formatting, lighting, and print quality. If some wines were missed, try rescanning with better lighting, a steadier angle, or by capturing the page in sections.
The cellar helps you track wines you own. To add a bottle:
You can edit quantities, add purchase details, and remove bottles as you drink them.
From the Cellar tab, tap “+” and select “Scan Bottle.” Point your camera at the front label and capture it. You can optionally scan the back label for more details. The App will identify the wine and assess how well it matches your taste preferences.
Your taste profile is a personalized summary of your wine preferences. It’s generated during onboarding based on your experience level, budget preferences, preferred varietals, and specific flavor notes you like or dislike. The App uses your taste profile to provide better recommendations and to assess how well wines in your cellar match your palate.
You can update your taste profile anytime from the Profile tab.
The daily counter resets at 00:00 UTC. Bottle scans in the cellar have separate limits.
After you receive wine recommendations and indicate you’re having a wine, you can review it:
Your reviews help improve your taste profile and future recommendations. You may receive a reminder notification about an hour after indicating you’re having a wine.
Your personal information is not shared with third parties in a way that identifies you. We may use anonymized and aggregated data to improve our services and generate industry insights. Your menu and bottle images are processed by AI to extract wine information. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Email support@thesommelai.com with the subject line “Data Deletion Request” and include your Account ID (found in the Profile tab of the App). We’ll delete your account, profile, scans, reviews, cellar items, and stored images within 30 days. Anonymized or aggregated data that has already been incorporated into our analytics cannot be deleted.
When you choose Sign in with Apple, Apple verifies your identity and provides us with your email address (or a private relay address if you choose “Hide My Email”). We never see your Apple ID password. You’ll still need to complete our sign-up flow to provide your display name, date of birth, and taste preferences.
